وَمُهَفهَفٍand a slender youth بِالفَرقِby his hair’s parting مُنفَرِدٍset apart
بِلِحاظِهِwith his glances يَسطوhe overpowers عَلىover الجَمعِthe throng
And a slender youth, set apart by his hair’s parting,
With their light fluttering alone
With his glances he overpowers the throng.
His glances reign over the crowd
يَجلوhe dispels الظَلامَthe darkness بِضوءِwith the light of غُرَّتِهِhis brow
وَيُعَيدِلونَand restores the hue of الجُنحَnight بِالفَرعِwith his hair
He dispels the darkness with the light of his brow,
He dispels the darkness with his blush’s glow
And restores the hue of night with his hair.
And they waver, bending like a bough
ماnever شِمتُI glimpsed بَرقاًlightning عَنfrom مُقَبَّلِهِhis lips
إِلّاexcept وَنابَand took the place عَنِof الحَياrain دَمعِيmy tears
Never did I glimpse lightning from his lips
Never have I glimpsed a flash from his kiss
Without my tears taking the place of rain.
Without my tears flowing in place of life
فَلِثَغرِهِso, for his mouth وَشِفاهِand the lips of مَبسَمِهِhis smiling mouth
أَهوىI love العَقيقَagate وَبارِقَand the gleam of الجَزعِonyx
So, for his mouth and his smiling lips,
For his mouth and smiling lips
I love agate and the gleam of onyx.
I yearn for carnelian and bright aloe wood
