Ah, is there a return to my home in the valley of Tuwayliʿ,
Shall I return to my home in the long valley of Tuwayli’
though it has grown distant since my departure?
Though it be far, a difficult journey home?

And will that bygone time return there,
Will the days of the past return there,
brief as it was, while my sorrow for it lasts so long?
Days whose brief passing grieves me still?

And from separation's noonday heat, is there for me in its shade
Will there, after the pain of absence, be a resting place for me
a place to rest at noon, and someone to lift me from the harm of stumbling?
In its shade, a refuge from the evil of stumbling?
