هَلis there? لِفُؤاديfor my heart ياO جيرَةَneighbors of الواديthe valley
مِنfrom أَسرِهِits captivity دونَoutside دارِهِمtheir dwelling فاديone who ransoms
Is there for my heart, O neighbors of the valley,
someone to ransom it from captivity outside their dwelling?
أَوor يُرجِعُwill restore الدَهرُtime ليto me بَمَعهَدِهِمat their familiar haunt
عَهدَthe days of اِجتِمعيmy reunion (apparently اجتماعي) بِعودِwith the return of أَعياديmy feast days
Or will time restore to me, at their familiar haunt,
the days of my reunion, with the return of my feast days,
وَتَنقَضيand will end مُدَّةُthe term of الوَعيدِthe threat بِإِبعof banish- (word fragment)
ادي-ing me (word continuation) وَيُقضىand will be fulfilled بِالوَصلِthrough reunion ميعاديmy promised tryst
and will the term of the threat to banish
me end, and my promised tryst be fulfilled through reunion?
فَقَدfor indeed بَمادىhas dragged on (apparently تمادى) هَجريmy estrangement وَقَصَّرَand has fallen short بيfor me
نَضوَthe worn-out mount of اِعتِماديmy reliance وَطالَand has grown long تَرداديmy going to and fro
For my estrangement has dragged on, and I have been let down
by the worn-out mount I relied on; my wandering to and fro has grown long.
وَطالَand has grown long فيin تيهِthe wilderness of حُبِّكُمlove for you سَفَريmy journey
بِغَيرِwithout ماءٍwater يُرَوّيthat quenches thirst وَلاand no زادِprovisions
And my journey has grown long in the wilderness of love for you,
without water to quench my thirst, and without provisions.
