إِنَّindeed الَّتيshe who سَمَحَتshe granted لَناto us بِوِصالِهاunion with her
إِنَّ الَّتي سَمَحَت لَنا بِوِصالِها
وَعَلىand toward الوَرىhumankind شَحَّتshe begrudged بِطَيفِthe phantom of خَيالِهاher image
وَعَلى الوَرى شَحَّت بِطَيفِ خَيالِها
Indeed, she who granted us union with her,
She who allowed us to meet her
yet denied humankind even the phantom of her image,
And was miserly with her phantom on earth
مَمنوعَةٌinaccessible ماnot زِلتُI have ceased مِنbecause of وَجديmy ardor بِهاfor her
مَمنوعَةٌ ما زِلتُ مِن وَجدي بِها
مُتَنَعِّماًdelighting بِجَميلِهاin her kindness وَجَمالِهاand her beauty
مُتَنَعِّماً بِجَميلِها وَجَمالِها
is beyond reach; through my ardor for her I have not ceased
I am still prevented from my passion for her
to delight in her kindness and her beauty.
Delighting in her beauty and grace
سارَتshe set out وَقَدand already صَحَبَتshe took along إِلَيهاto her مُهجَتيmy soul
سارَت وَقَد صَحَبَت إِلَيها مُهجَتي
فَأَزالَso dispelled حَرَّthe heat of حَشايَmy breast بَردُthe coolness of زُلالِهاher clear water
فَأَزالَ حَرَّ حَشايَ بَردُ زُلالِها
She set out, having already taken my soul to her side,
She went, and my love went with her
and so the coolness of her clear water dispelled the heat in my breast.
So the coolness of her saliva removed the heat of my sorrow
ماnot راقَبَتshe heeded رِقباءَهاher watchers لَمّاwhen سَرَتshe traveled by night
ما راقَبَت رِقباءَها لَمّا سَرَت
نَحويtoward me وَلاnor التَفَتَتshe turned إِلىto عُذّاليmy reproachers
نَحوي وَلا التَفَتَت إِلى عُذّالي
She paid no heed to her watchers when she traveled by night
She did not watch over her rivals when she went
toward me, nor did she turn to my reproachers.
Towards me and did not turn to my enemies
فَأَرَتهُمُso she showed them الإِدبارَrejection فيin إِدبارِهاher turning away
فَأَرَتهُمُ الإِدبارَ في إِدبارِها
وَأَرَتنيand she showed me الإِقبالَfavor فيin إِقبالِهاher approach
وَأَرَتني الإِقبالَ في إِقبالِها
So she showed them rejection in her turning away,
She showed them her back as she turned her back
and showed me favor in her approach.
And showed me her face as she turned her face
وَحَظيتُand I was favored مِنهاfrom her بِالأَمانيwith wishes واثِقاًconfident
وَحَظيتُ مِنها بِالأَماني واثِقاً
بِوَفائِهاin her fidelity مِنfrom غَدرِهاher treachery وَمَلالِهاand her weariness
بِوَفائِها مِن غَدرِها وَمَلالِها
And I gained from her the fulfillment of my wishes, confident
And I gained from her the fulfillments of my hopes
in her fidelity, safe from her treachery and her weariness.
Trusting her loyalty over her betrayal and boredom
