ضَلّواthey went astray وَقَدand yet ظَنّواthey thought الهُدىguidance عِندَهُمwith them
ضَلّوا وَقَد ظَنّوا الهُدى عِندَهُم
إِذاwhen لَيسَis not بِالظَنِّthrough conjecture يُنالُis attained اليَقينcertainty
إِذا لَيسَ بِالظَنِّ يُنالُ اليَقين
They went astray, though they thought guidance was theirs,
They went astray though they thought they were guided
when certainty cannot be attained through conjecture.
For certainty is not obtained through guesswork
وَاِنتَحَلواand they professed السَنَةَthe Sunnah دَعوىa claim عَلىdespite
وَاِنتَحَلوا السَنَةَ دَعوى عَلى
رَفضِهِمtheir rejection حُكمَthe judgment of الكِتابِthe Book المُبينthe clear
رَفضِهِم حُكمَ الكِتابِ المُبين
And they professed the Sunnah—a mere claim—despite
And they claimed the tradition in justification
their rejection of the judgment of the clear Book.
