أَخوكَyour brother مَنthe one who إِنif كُنتَyou are فيin
أَخوكَ مَن إِن كُنتَ في
نُعمىprosperity وَبُؤسٍand hardship عادَلَكtreats you as an equal
نُعمى وَبُؤسٍ عادَلَك
Your brother is the one who, whether you are in
Your brother is he who, whether you are
prosperity or hardship, treats you as an equal;
In prosperity or adversity, treats you equally;
فَإِنand if رَآكَhe sees you مُنعِماًbestowing favors
فَإِن رَآكَ مُنعِماً
بِالبِرِّwith kindness مِنهُfrom him عادَreturns لَكto you
بِالبِرِّ مِنهُ عادَ لَك
and if he sees you bestowing favors,
For if he sees you enjoying fortune
repays you with kindness of his own.
With righteousness he emulates you.
