صُفرَتُهُits yellowness تُخبِرُtells عَنof ضَناهits wasting sickness
صُفرَتُهُ تُخبِرُ عَن ضَناه
What figure is this that amazes whoever sees it?
A specter who astonishes those who see him,
Its yellow pallor tells of its wasting sickness.
His paleness tells of his torment.
يَبكيweeps بِجَفنٍwith an eyelid غائِبٍabsent كَراهits sleep
يَبكي بِجَفنٍ غائِبٍ كَراه
أَدمُعُهits tears تَزيدُincrease فيin قُواهits strength
أَدمُعُه تَزيدُ في قُواه
It weeps with an eyelid bereft of sleep.
He weeps with absent eyelids of dislike,
Its tears add to its strength.
His tears only increase his strength.
مُعذّبُtormented اللَيلِthe night إِلىuntil ضُحاهُits midmorning
مُعذّبُ اللَيلِ إِلى ضُحاهُ
تَلهبُblazes نارُthe fire الشَوقِlonging فيin حَشاهits breast
تَلهبُ نارُ الشَوقِ في حَشاه
It is tormented through the night until midmorning.
Tortured by night until morning,
The fire of longing blazes in its breast.
The fire of longing blazes within him.
