خالستُهُI stole from him قُبلَةًa kiss عَلىin a state of ظَمإٍthirst
خالستُهُ قُبلَةً عَلى ظَمإٍ
فَذُقتُand I tasted ماءَthe water الحَياةِof life مِنfrom شَفَتِهhis lip
فَذُقتُ ماءَ الحَياةِ مِن شَفَتِه
I stole a kiss from him in my thirst,
I kissed his thirst
And tasted the water of life from his lip.
And tasted life's water from his lips
فَاِرفضّthen he broke out مِنfrom فَرطِexcess of خَجلَةٍbashfulness عَرَقاًin sweat
فَاِرفضّ مِن فَرطِ خَجلَةٍ عَرَقاً
فَصارَand became خَدّيmy cheek بَديلَa substitute for مِنشَفَتِهhis towel
فَصارَ خَدّي بَديلَ مِنشَفَتِه
Then he broke out in sweat from overwhelming bashfulness,
He perspired profusely from shyness
And my cheek took the place of his towel.
My cheek became a substitute for his lips
