قامَ بِلا عَقلٍ وَلا دِينِ

قامَ بِلا عَقلٍ وَلا دِينِ

يَخلُطُ تَصفيقاً بِتَأذينِ

He rose, with neither reason nor religion,

He rose with neither sense nor faith,

mixing handclaps with the call to prayer.

فَنَبّه الأَحبابَ مِن نَومِهم

فَنَبّه الأَحبابَ مِن نَومِهم

لِيَخرُجوا في غَيرِ ما حينِ

لِيَخرُجوا في غَيرِ ما حينِ

He roused the dear ones from their sleep,

So he roused the loved ones from their sleep,

so they would come out at the wrong hour.

so they would go out at an untimely hour.

كَأَنَّما غَصَّ بِها حَلقُهُ

كَأَنَّما غَصَّ بِها حَلقُهُ

أَغَصّه اللَهُ بسكّينِ

أَغَصّه اللَهُ بسكّينِ

As though his throat had choked upon it—

As though his throat had choked on it—

may God make him choke on a knife!

may God choke him with a knife!
