لا تَطغَ في حالِ الثَراءِ

لا تَطغَ في حالِ الثَراءِ

وَكُن لِفَقرِكَ ذاكِرا

وَكُن لِفَقرِكَ ذاكِرا

Do not overstep your bounds in times of wealth,

In times of wealth do not be vain

and remember your poverty,

Remember in poverty you have lain

إِذ كانَ خُبزُكَ ذا شرى

إِذ كانَ خُبزُكَ ذا شرى

بَحتاً وَبَيتُكَ ذا كَرى

بَحتاً وَبَيتُكَ ذا كَرى

when your bread had to be bought,

When your bread had to be bought

plain, and your house was rented.

And your home was nothing but a cot
