وَأَخٍand a brother إِذاwhen ماan emphatic particle شَطَّgrew distant عَنيfrom me رَحلُهُhis dwelling
وَأَخٍ إِذا ما شَطَّ عَني رَحلُهُ
أَدنىbrought near إِلَيّto me عَلىdespite النَوىthe separation مَعروفهُhis kindness
أَدنى إِلَيّ عَلى النَوى مَعروفهُ
And a brother, when his dwelling lies far from me,
Brings his kindness close to me despite the distance,
كَالكَرمِlike the grapevine لَمdid not يَمنَعهُprevent it بُعدُthe distance عَريشِهِof its trellis
كَالكَرمِ لَم يَمنَعهُ بُعدُ عَريشِهِ
مِنfrom أَنto يُقرّبَbring near لِلجُناةِto the gatherers قُطُوفَهُits fruit clusters
مِن أَن يُقرّبَ لِلجُناةِ قُطُوفَهُ
Like a grapevine whose distant trellis does not keep it
From bringing its clusters within the gatherers’ reach.
