وَباخِلٍand many a miser يُبديshows لَناto us
عَجائِباًwonders مِنof أَمرِهِhis affairs
And many a miser shows us
wonders in his ways.
يُوسِعُهُheaps upon him مِنof هَجوِناour satire
وَالذَمّand blame ضيقُnarrowness صَدرِهِhis heart
He is showered with our satire
and blame through his narrowness of heart.
فَقَدرُهُfor his worth كَقِدرِهِlike his cooking pot
وَقِدرُهُand his cooking pot كَقَدرِهِlike his worth
For his worth is like his cooking pot,
and his cooking pot is like his worth.
وَخُبزُهُand his bread فيin حَرَمٍa sanctuary
مِنfrom أَكلِهِeating it وَكَسرِهِand breaking it
And his bread lies in a sanctuary,
safe from being eaten or broken.
