وَقائِلَةٍ إِنّ المَعالي مَواهِبٌ

وَقائِلَةٍ إِنّ المَعالي مَواهِبٌ

فَقُلتُ لَها أَخطَأتِ هُنَّ مَناهِبُ

فَقُلتُ لَها أَخطَأتِ هُنَّ مَناهِبُ

And a woman said, “Indeed, lofty honors are gifts.”

A woman said that glory is a gift

So I told her, “You are mistaken; they are spoils to be seized.”

I told her “You are wrong, they are trials”

أَرادَت صُدُوفي وَاِنحِرافي عَنِ العُلا

أَرادَت صُدُوفي وَاِنحِرافي عَنِ العُلا

وَما أَنا في هَذي المَذاهِبِ ذاهِبُ

وَما أَنا في هَذي المَذاهِبِ ذاهِبُ

She wanted me to turn aside and stray from lofty heights,

She wanted to deviate me from excellence

and I do not go down these paths.

But I won't follow those ways
