وَريمٍand a gazelle عَلىin السُكرِdrunkenness جمّشتُهI fondled him
وَريمٍ عَلى السُكرِ جمّشتُه
بِقُرصٍwith a pinch بِعارِضِهِon his cheek أَثّراleft a mark
بِقُرصٍ بِعارِضِهِ أَثّرا
And a gazelle I fondled in drunkenness,
A rose I compared his rosy cheek to,
With a pinch that left a mark on his cheek.
With a slice by its cheek made an effect.
فَأَصبحَthen became نَرجِسُهُhis narcissus وَردَةًa rose
فَأَصبحَ نَرجِسُهُ وَردَةً
وَوَردَةُand the rose خَدَّيهِof his two cheeks نِيلوفراa water lily
وَوَردَةُ خَدَّيهِ نِيلوفرا
Then his narcissus became a rose,
So his narcissus did turn into a rose
And the rose of his cheeks a water lily.
And the rose of his cheeks did turn to a water-lily.
