ظَبيٌ كَسا رَأسي المُشبَّبَ بِعارِضٍ
نَمّbecame visible العِذارُthe sideburns بِحافَتَيهِat its two edges وَلاحاand gleamed
نَمّ العِذارُ بِحافَتَيهِ وَلاحا
A gazelle clothed my youthful head with a cloud of gray;
The gazelle bent my head adorned with tresses
The sideburns showed at its two edges and gleamed.
Dew moistened their edges and glistened
فَكَأَنَّماso it was as though أَهدىgave as a gift لِعارِضِto the cheek-down خَدِّهِhis cheek
فَكَأَنَّما أَهدى لِعارِضِ خَدِّهِ
شَعريmy hair ظَلاماًdarkness وَاِستَعاضَand took in exchange صَباحاdawn
شَعري ظَلاماً وَاِستَعاضَ صَباحا
As though the down upon his cheek had been given
As though my hair had gifted shadows to his cheek
Darkness by my hair, which took dawn in exchange.
And his morning rejoiced in their darkness
