Welcome, narcissus of the garden,
Welcome to Narcissus Meadow
Proud of its beauty and fragrance,
Adorned with beauty and fragrance
يَرنوgazes بِعَينٍwith an eye غَزالٍof a gazelle
يَرنو بِعَينٍ غَزالٍ
عَلىupon قَضيبٍa stem رَطيبِtender
عَلى قَضيبٍ رَطيبِ
Gazing with a gazelle’s eye
Gazing with doe eyes
Upon a tender stem.
Upon a slender, sweet rod
وَفيهِand within it مَعنىًa meaning خَفيٌّhidden
وَفيهِ مَعنىً خَفيٌّ
يَزينُهُadorns it فيin القُلوبِthe hearts
يَزينُهُ في القُلوبِ
And within it lies a hidden meaning
In it a hidden meaning
That adorns it in hearts:
That adorns hearts
تَصحِيفُهُits reading with altered letter-dots إِنif نَسقتyou arrange
تَصحِيفُهُ إِن نَسقت
الحُروفَthe letters بِرُّkindness حَبيبِof a beloved
الحُروفَ بِرُّ حَبيبِ
Its reading with altered dots, if you arrange
Its misreading, should I string
The letters, is ‘a beloved’s kindness.’
