O you who invited us, yet left the invitation unfulfilled,

You truly excelled in the basest deeds,

And departed from kindness and generosity.

A little food would have sufficed us:

A meal of tender gazelle, pierced through,

And pieces of your forbidden bread,

And a jug of pure, cold water.

But you shrank from the chase for morsels,

And told the guest, 'May you fall flat on your mouth!'

A trait I recognize from Akhzam.
