And a sturdy, mature steed, for whose fattening was prepared
With a grave, dignified air, he prepared his traveling provisions—
Milk from a nursing she-camel; he grew to fill his girth.
The milk of the oleaster filled his waterskin.

كَالسَيفِ أُرهِفُ حدُّهُ بِحُسامِهِ
Al-Muqanna presented al-Walid with a poem,
Al-Muqanna' gifted al-Walid a poem
Like a sword whose edge I hone with his blade.
Keen-edged like a sword in its eloquence.

And the caliphate after Hisham's death.
