خَلَعتَyou bestowed ثَوبَthe robe of الصِفيّthe chosen friend
خَلَعتَ ثَوبَ الصِفيّ
عَلىupon العُبَيدthe humble servant الوَفيِّthe faithful
عَلى العُبَيد الوَفيِّ
You bestowed the robe of a chosen friend
You cast off the garment of faithfulness
upon the faithful humble servant.
Upon the loyal slaves
ياO مُستَرِقّاًone who enslaves بِنُعماthrough bounty
يا مُستَرِقّاً بِنُعما
هُhis كُلَّevery حُرٍّfree man سَريِّnoble
هُ كُلَّ حُرٍّ سَريِّ
O you who enslave through your bounty
O you who steal blessings
every free and noble man!
He is every free man, secretive
أَتىarrived عَلىupon الوَردِthe bay steed سَرجٌa saddle
أَتى عَلى الوَردِ سَرجٌ
كالهَديّlike the gift فَوقَatop الهَديِّthe gift
كالهَديّ فَوقَ الهَديِّ
A saddle arrived upon the bay steed,
A saddle came upon the rose
like a gift atop a gift.
Like gifts above gifts
فَسَوفَso, shall أُورِدُI lead to drink رمحيmy spear
فَسَوفَ أُورِدُ رمحي
عَلَيهِupon it قَلبthe heart of الكَميِّthe armored warrior
عَلَيهِ قَلب الكَميِّ
So I shall lead my spear to drink,
So I will thrust my spear
astride it, at the armored warrior’s heart.
