كَلامٌwords كَمِثلِlike الدُرّpearls تَنثرُهُshe scatters them نَثراًscattering
وَوَصلٌand union كَظِلِّlike the shade of الرَوضthe garden تُعطيكَهُshe grants it to you نَزراsparingly
Words like pearls that she scatters about;
And union like a garden’s shade, which she grants you sparingly.
وَلَوand if لَمnot تَشُبshe mingled وَصليmy union بِهَجرٍwith estrangement لَخِلتَنيyou would have thought me
I converse face to face with مِنهاin her الشَمسَthe sun أَوor أَلثُمُI kiss البَدراthe full moon
And had she not mingled my union with estrangement, you would have thought me
Conversing face to face with the sun in her, or kissing the full moon.
