She stood so that her stature might veil the sun’s disc
Her figure rose to veil the sun's disc from my sight
From my gaze; she was veiled from the gaze of others.
She was hidden from my gaze and from others' gazes
عِلماًknowing لَعَمرُكَby your life مِنهاon her part أَنَّهاthat she is قَمَرٌa moon
عِلماً لَعَمرُكَ مِنها أَنَّها قَمَرٌ

هَل تَحجُبُ الشَمسَ إِلّا صَفحَةُ القَمَرِ
For she knew, by your life, that she was a moon—
Surely, by your life, she is a moon
Does anything veil the sun but the face of the moon?
Does any but the moon's orb veil the sun?
