ياO مَنyou who تَعَرَّضconfronted ليagainst me يُريدُseeks مَساءَتيto harm me
يا مَن تَعَرَّض لي يُريدُ مَساءَتي
لاdo not تَعرضَنَّconfront (emphatic) فَقَدfor indeed نُصِحتَyou have been advised لمندمِto avert regret
لا تَعرضَنَّ فَقَد نُصِحتَ لمندمِ
O you who confront me, seeking to harm me,
O you who try to harm me,
Do not confront me—you have been warned, lest you regret it.
Do not try, for you have been warned of regret.
مَنwhoever غَرّهُdeceived him مِنّيin me خَلائقُtraits سَهلَةٌgentle
مَن غَرّهُ مِنّي خَلائقُ سَهلَةٌ
فالسمّfor the venom تَحتَbeneath ليانsoftness مَسّtouch الأَرقَمِthe speckled serpent
فالسمّ تَحتَ ليان مَسّ الأَرقَمِ
Whoever is deceived by my gentle ways—
He who is fooled by my gentle nature,
For venom lies beneath the speckled serpent’s softness to the touch.
Should know poison lies beneath the soft touch.
