مِنَ المَجدِ فاحتَلَّ غَيرَ القُنَنْ
O noble one, who never sought a lofty height
O Magid, never aspiring for glory,
of glory only to settle anywhere but the summits,
He usurped glory other than spears.
سَألتُكَI asked you صَفراءa yellow one ِبكراًvirgin فَجُدْso be generous
سَألتُكَ صَفراء ِبكراً فَجُدْ

عَليَّ بِها شافِعا لِلمَنَنْ
I asked you for a virgin yellow shield; so be generous
I asked you for an untouched young camel,
to me with it, adding to your favors.
So intercede for me to grant favors.

It turns the spearhead, when it is assailed
The teeth reject when their sharpness
by its keen tip, away from its straight course,
Exceeds the straight line of norms.

even though you belong to a people who, in battle,
And if you are of a group in battle
put their hearts in place of shields.
Who made hearts stand in for insanity.
