يا بَديعَ الحُسنِ وَالإِح
سانِ-lence (completes 'benevolence') ياO بَدرَfull moon الدَياجيthe dark nights
سانِ يا بَدرَ الدَياجي
O marvel of beauty and benevo-
Oh beauty of beauty and kindness
lence, O full moon of the dark nights!
Oh full moon shining bright
ياO غَزالاًa gazelle صادَcaptured مِنّيfrom me
يا غَزالاً صادَ مِنّي
بِالطُلَىwith the necks (throats) لَيثَthe lion of الهَياجِbattle-fury
بِالطُلَى لَيثَ الهَياجِ
O gazelle that captured from me,
Oh gazelle who has fled from me
with its neck, the lion of battle!
With a glittering coat, ferocious lion
قَدindeed غَنيناwe have no need بِسَناthrough the radiance of وَجْfa- (begins 'face')
قَد غَنينا بِسَنا وَجْ
هَكَ-ce + your (completes 'your face') عَنfor; in need of ضَوءِthe light of السراجِthe lamp
هَكَ عَن ضَوءِ السراجِ
We have no need, thanks to the radiance of your fa-
We have been enlightened by your brilliance
ce, of the lamp's light.
