أَياO ملكاking يَجِلّis exalted عَنabove الضَريبِan equal
وَمَنand you who يَلتَذُّdelight in غُفرانَforgiving الذُنوبِsins
O king too exalted to have an equal,
O mighty King, be lenient with taxing
And you who delight in forgiving sins,
And one who takes pleasure in forgiving sins
وَمَنand you who فيin كَفِّهhis hand بُؤسيmy misery وَنعميand my prosperity
تَصرَّفَexercised authority فيover العدوّthe foe وَفيand over الحَبيبِthe beloved
And you, in whose hand lie my misery and my prosperity,
And one in whose hand is my misery and bounty
You have wielded power over foe and beloved.
Who has power over foe and beloved
تَسَخّطكyour displeasure المُمِضُّagonizing أَعَلَّhas sickened نَفسيmy soul
وَماand there is no ليfor me غيرother than عفوِكَyour pardon منany طَبيبِphysician
Your agonizing displeasure has sickened my soul,
Your anger that persists exalts my soul
And I have no physician but your pardon.
And I have none but your pardon as my remedy
ولستand I am not بمذكرreminding ذَنبيmy sin وَلَكنْbut
نَنيI قَدindeed جئتُI have come فيin حالِthe condition of المُريبِone under suspicion
And I am not reminding you of my sin, but
I do not recall my sin, but
I have indeed come as one under suspicion.
I have come in a state of distress
فَإِنso if عاقَبتَنيyou punish me فَجَزاءُthen the recompense مِثليone like me
وَإِنand if تَصفَحyou pardon فَلَيسَthen it is not مِنamong الغَريبِthe unusual
So if you punish me, that is the recompense for one like me;
If you punish me, it's what one like me deserves
And if you pardon me, that is nothing strange.
And if you pardon, it's no wonder
بقيتَmay you remain مُؤَيَّداًupheld ماas long as لاحَflashed بَرقٌlightning
وَماand as long as غَنّىsang الحَمامُthe doves عَلىupon قَضيبِa branch
May you remain upheld as long as lightning flashes,
You remained supported as long as dawn gleamed
And as long as doves sing upon a branch.
And as long as the dove cooed on the branch
