حَقّاًtruly ظَفَرتَyou have gained بِأَشلاءwith the remains of ابنson of عَبّادِʿAbbād
O grave of the stranger, may the clouds of evening and morning water you.
The breeze coming over watered your grave, O stranger!
Truly, you have gained the remains of Ibn ʿAbbād:
Indeed, you attained the remains of Ibn Abbad.

With forbearance, with knowledge, with bounty when it flowed unbroken;
With wisdom, knowledge and prosperity when they were connected,
With plenty when they suffered drought, with drink for the thirsty;
With fertility, though they suffered drought without rain for the sower,
بالطاعِنwith the lancer الضارِبthe striker الراميthe archer إِذاwhen اِقتَتَلواthey fought one another

With the lancer, the striker, the archer when they fought;
With the critic, the striker, the archer when they fought,
With blood-red death, with the charging lion;
With death, red with sorrow usual,

With Time in retribution, with the sea in bounty;
With fate in vengeance, with the sea in blessings,
With the full moon in darkness, with the foremost man in the assembly.
With the moon in darkness, with the chest in the companion.
نَعَمyes هُوَit الحَقُّthe truth وَافانيcame to me بِهِwith it قَدَرٌa decree of fate
مِنَfrom السَماءِheaven فَوافانيand so it met me لِميعادِat an appointed time
Yes, it is the truth: fate brought it to me
Yes, it is the truth, and destiny befell me with it
From heaven, and met me at the appointed time.
From the sky, so destiny befell me for the appointment.
وَلَمand not أَكُنI was قَبلَbefore ذاكَthat النَعشِthe bier أَعلَمُهُknow it
أَنَّthat الجِبالthe mountains تَهادىsway gently فَوقَabove أَعوادِwooden poles
And before that bier, I had not known this:
I did not know before that bier
That mountains could sway upon wooden poles.
That mountains would collapse over the poles.
كَفاكَenough for you فارفُقso be gentle بِماwith what اِستودِعتَyou were entrusted with مِنof كَرَمٍnobility

You have enough; so be gentle with the nobility entrusted to you.
Enough for you, so be gentle with what you were entrusted with of generosity.
May every thundercloud, scowling with lightning, drench you,
Every thunderbolt’s axis watered you.

Weeping for its brother, whose downpour you have hidden
Your brother, whom you hid, cries for you
Beneath the stone slabs, with tears flowing evening and morning,
With flowing tears under the metal sheet.

Until the tears of dew shower you, streaming down
Until the hanging tear sheds for you, flowing
From the eyes of flowers, unstinting in shared mourning.
From the eyes of flowers that did not begrudge happiness.
وَلاand not تَزالُcease صَلاةُthe blessing of اللَهِGod دائِمَةًeverlasting

And may God's blessing remain forever
And the prayer of God for your burial remains ceaseless,
Upon the one buried in you, beyond all counting.
Beyond count in number.
