مَولايَmy lord أَشكوI complain إِلَيكَto you داءًan ailment
أَصبحhas become قَلبيmy heart بِهِbecause of it قَريحاwounded
My lord, I complain to you of an ailment;
My Master, I complain to You of an illness
My heart has become wounded by it.
That has made my heart sick and distressed.
إِنif لَمnot يُرِحهُrelieve it رِضاكyour favor عَنّيtoward me
فَلستthen I am not ُأَدريI know لَهُfor it مُريحاsomeone who brings relief
If your favor toward me does not relieve it,
If Your pleasure with me does not heal it,
Then I know no one who can bring it relief.
I know not what healer can give it rest.
سُخطُكyour displeasure قَدindeed زادَنيhas brought me more سَقاماsickness
فاِبعَثso send إِلَيَّto me الرِضىfavor مسيحاas a Messiah
Your displeasure has increased my sickness;
Your displeasure has increased my sickness.
So send me your favor as a Messiah.
Send me then Your pleasure as a cure,
وَاِغفِرand forgive ذنوبيmy sins ولاand do not تُضيِّقmake narrow
عَنfor حَملِهاbearing them صَدركَyour breast الفسيحاspacious
And forgive my sins; do not make
And forgive my sins, do not be strict
Your spacious breast too narrow to bear them.
In holding me to account, this I implore.
لَوif صَوَّرfashioned اللَهُGod لِلمَعاليfor lofty virtues
جسماًa body لأصبَحتَthen you would become فيهِwithin it روحاa soul
If God fashioned for lofty virtues
If God were to give the exalted ideals
A body, you would become its soul.
A body, You would be its living soul.
