إِلىtoward موردٍa watering place عَذبٍsweet عَلىupon بَوحِopenness
My hand is better guided in its generosity than giving,
My hands have led me, with their gift of bounty
Toward a sweet watering place, in openness.
To a sweet, flowing spring in a meadow.
إِذاwhen أَبطَلthwarted الأَملاكthe kings غَيريsomeone other than me لِلثَناfor praise
فَإِنّيَthen indeed I وَضّاحُradiant الجَبينthe brow إِلىtoward المَدحِpraise
When kings thwart someone other than me in seeking praise,
If others fail to sing my praises,
Then I am radiant of brow, turned toward praise.
I raise my brow in self-congratulation.
وَكُلُّand every امرىءٍperson يَجنيcommits عَليَّagainst me جَريمَةًan offense
فَإِنّيthen indeed I أُجازيهI repay him عَلىfor الذَنبِthe sin بِالصَفحِwith pardon
And every person who commits an offense against me—
And though each man may commit some crime against me,
I repay him for his sin with pardon.
I repay the wrong with forgiveness.
