If my heart were free of its preoccupations,
If my heart were free from all cares
it would cry out at the loss of the soul’s beloved, “Alas!”
It would cry out from missing my soul's beloved, and grieve,

But its diligent preoccupation with glory
But it is occupied with aspiring to glory, striving
distracts it from loving whoever has departed or drawn near.
Its passion makes it forget those near or far, its love.
