I prolonged glory's pride with gleaming swords and dusky spears,
I have exalted the glory of triumph with the white and the brown
And shortened the lives of enemies by force.
And shortened the lives of enemies with distress

لأشياءَ في العَلياءِ ضاقَ بِها صَدري
And widened the paths of generosity, by nature and by practice,
And I widened the paths of generosity by nature and habit
For matters of lofty honor that made my breast grow tight.
For things in the sublime that my chest was too narrow for

For a man has no glory so long as his rival
So there is no glory for a person whose opponent
Shares with him in this world the power to forbid and command.
Shares with him in fate by prohibition and command
