حاطَ نَزري إِذ خافَ تَأكيد ضَرّي

حاطَ نَزري إِذ خافَ تَأكيد ضَرّي

فاِستَحَقّ الجَفاءَ أَن حاطَ نَزرا

فاِستَحَقّ الجَفاءَ أَن حاطَ نَزرا

He guarded what little I had, since he feared worsening my suffering.

When he feared my harm would be confirmed

So he deserved coldness for guarding so little.

He deserved callousness for scorning me

فَإِذا ما طَويت في البعض حَمداً

فَإِذا ما طَويت في البعض حَمداً

عادَ لَومي في البعض سِرّا وَجَهرا

عادَ لَومي في البعض سِرّا وَجَهرا

And whenever I harbored praise for some of it,

So when I conceal praise of some

My reproach for some of it returned, in secret and openly.

My blame of others returns, secretly and openly
