God has indeed spread acts of generosity from my palm.
God has spread generous qualities from my palms,
So, despite hardships, I am not one to hold back from them.
So I am not negligent of them, my brother.

The treasuries, at its excessive giving, cry out
Houses of wealth call out from the excess of my giving,
to my right hand: 'You have overspent, you who wrong me—stop!'
My right hand has made my left hand stop being stingy.
أَتُغريdoes it entice? يَمينيmy right hand بِالسَماحِwith generosity فَتَنهَميso it pours forth
وَلاand not تَرتَضيaccept خِلّاa friend يَقولُsays لَهاto it يَكفيit is enough
Does my right hand entice with generosity, then pour forth,
Does my right hand entice me with generosity until it becomes greedy,
and accept no friend who tells it, 'Enough'?
And does not accept anything less than being told “that is enough”?
لَعَمرُكَby your life ماnot الإِسرافُextravagance فيin طَبيعَةٍa disposition
وَلَكِنَّbut طَبعَdisposition البُخلِstinginess عِنديَto me كالحَتفِlike death
By your life, extravagance is not in my nature;
By your life, extravagance is not in my nature,
but to me a miserly disposition is like death.
Rather the imprint of stinginess in me is like carved stone.
