مِنfrom عاشِقٍa lover يَشكوlaments صَباباتِهِhis passionate yearnings
مِن عاشِقٍ يَشكو صَباباتِهِ
إِلىto مَحبٍّa lover هائِمٍlost in love مِثلِهِlike him
إِلى مَحبٍّ هائِمٍ مِثلِهِ
From a lover who laments his passionate yearnings,
From a lover complaining of his trials
To a lover lost in love like him.
To a friend who suffers likewise,
كِلاهُماboth of them صَبٌّlovesick إِلىfor إِلفِهِhis beloved
كِلاهُما صَبٌّ إِلى إِلفِهِ
حَرّانُburning with longing ظَمآنُthirsty إِلىfor وَصلِهِunion with him
حَرّانُ ظَمآنُ إِلى وَصلِهِ
Each of them is lovesick for his beloved,
Both consumed with yearning for their beloved,
Burning and thirsting for union with him.
Burning with thirst for their union.
ياO رَبّLord عَجّلhasten جَمعَthe joining هَذاthis one بِذاwith that one
يا رَبّ عَجّل جَمعَ هَذا بِذا
وَقَرّبand bring close الشَكلَthe like إِلىto شَكلِهِits like
وَقَرّب الشَكلَ إِلى شَكلِهِ
O Lord, hasten the joining of this one with that,
O Lord, hasten to bring this one to that,
And bring like close to its like.
And join each form to its likeness.
