Indeed, despite my familiarity with sleeplessness and grief,

I call to you, O you who wear bodies out with sleeplessness.

You have torn apart my heart, which gave you its essence.

Indeed, I gave you the pure essence of my soul and liver.

O pearl that never gleamed in its diver’s palm

but he gazed upon it until the end of time.

My heart is in your palm; I have no hope of its release,

like prey that has fallen into a lion’s paws.
