Ah, O king who has remained a refuge in adversity,
And O peerless one who has surpassed all this creation,

Be gentle with a servant whose love for you is innate,
While the love of others is mere pretense.

If you forgive folly—may I be your ransom—
For to many a fallen man your highness has said, 'Rise again!'

Pardon me, and you will find a grateful servant and a keen sword,
That cuts down lions among your enemies and severs their neck-veins.

A cloud of painful wrath has loomed over me;
So let the breeze of favor drive it away, that it may disperse.
