فَناهيكَso, how splendid منas a غيلlion's thicket وَناهيكand how splendid مِنas a خِدرِsecluded bower
Dwellings of lions and fair, tender women—
So, what a lion's thicket, and what a secluded bower!

And many a night I spent delighting in its darkness,
With a woman lush of hips and barren of waist.

And fair and dusky women did to my heart
What white sword-blades and brown spears do.

And a night at the river-dam I passed in pleasure,
With a woman whose bracelet was like the full moon's curve.
نَضَتshe shed بُردَهاher robe عَنfrom غُصنِa bough of بانa bān-tree مُنَعَّمٍtender
نَضيرٍfresh كَماas اِنشَقّsplit open الكِمامُthe bud-sheaths عَنfrom الزَهرِthe blossoms
She shed her robe from a tender bān-tree bough,
Fresh, as bud-sheaths split to reveal the blossoms.

And she appeared, giving me wine with her glance,
Now from her cup, and now from her lips.

And her strings enraptured me, as though I
Heard the music of cleaving swords on the sinews of necks.
