اِشرَبdrink عَلىupon وَجهِthe face of الصَباحِthe morning
وَاِنظُرand look إِلىat نورِthe blossoms of الأَقاحِthe daisies
Drink as morning shows its face,
Drink at dawn's face
And look at the blossoms of the daisies.
And gaze on meadow-flowers' grace
وَاِعلَمand know بِأَنَّكَthat you جاهِلٌignorant
إِنif لَمnot تَقُلyou speak بالاصطباحِin favor of morning drinking
And know that you are ignorant
Know you are a fool
If you do not advocate drinking in the morning.
Unless with friends you lace
فالدهرُfor time شيءa thing بارِدٌcold
ماas long as لَمnot تُسخنهyou warm it بَراحِwith wine
For time is a cold thing,
For time is cold
Unless you warm it with wine.
Unless you warm its pace
