سَأسألُI shall ask رَبّيmy Lord أَنto يُديمَmake endure بيَin me الشَكوىthe illness
فَقَدfor indeed قَرَبَتit brought near مِنto مَضجَعيmy bed الرَشأthe young gazelle الأَحوىdark-hued
I shall ask my Lord to let my illness endure,
For it has brought the dusky young gazelle close to my bed.
إِذاif عِلَّةٌan illness كانَتwere لِقُربِكfor your nearness عِلَّةًa cause
تَمَنَّيتُI would wish أَنthat تَبقىit remain بِجِسميin my body وأنand that تَقوىit grow stronger
If an illness were the cause of your nearness,
I would wish it to remain in my body and grow stronger.
شَكَوتُI complained of illness وَسِحرٌwhile Sihr قَدhad أَغَبَّتmade infrequent زِيارَتيvisiting me
فَجاءَتso it came بِهاwith her النُعمىthe blessing الَّتيthat سُمِّيَتwas called بَلوىan affliction
I complained of illness, while Sihr had been visiting me but seldom;
So the blessing that was called affliction brought her.
فَياso O عِلَّتيmy illness دوميendure فَأَنتfor you حَبيبَةٌare beloved
وَياand O رَبّLord سمعاa hearing مِنof نِدائيَmy call وَالشَكوىand the complaint
So, my illness, endure, for you are beloved;
And, O Lord, give ear to my call and complaint.
