Come forward to the welcome you are accustomed to finding with me.
Come to what I am used to with me of vastness
And come: restored favor will greet you, a veil against reproach.
And let your blame that you cast upon me be a veil of blame

صفوحاً عَن الجاني رَؤُوفاً عَلى الصحبِ
Whenever you meet me, you will find the man you have already tested:
When will you meet me with the meeting I have experienced
Forgiving of the wrongdoer, compassionate toward companions.
Forgiving about the sinner, merciful to the companions
سأُوليكَI shall grant you مِنّيfrom me ماwhat عهدتَyou have known مِنَof الرِضاfavor

وَأَعرِضُ عَمّا كانَ إِن كانَ مِن ذَنبِ
I shall grant you the favor you have known from me,
I will give you from me what you were accustomed to of consent
And I shall overlook whatever wrong there was—if there was any.
And I will ignore what was if it was from sin

وَلا صارَ نسيانُ الأذمة مِن شَعبي
For the All-Merciful has not imbued my heart with hardness,
So the Merciful did not make my heart harsh
Nor has forgetting pledges become part of my nature.
Nor did forgetting harms become of my nature

فَلَيسَ يُعاني الشِعرَ مُشتَرَكُ اللبِّ
I took pains over it, seeking through it solace for you,
I struggled with it, wanting by it to comfort you
For one with a disordered mind does not labor over poetry.
But poetry does not suffer being shared by common minds
