خَليلَيّmy two friends قولاsay, you two هَلis there? عَلَيَّupon me مَلامَةٌblame
خَليلَيّ قولا هَل عَلَيَّ مَلامَةٌ
إِذاif لَمnot أَغِبI am absent إِلّاexcept لِتَحضُرَنيso that she may be with me الشَمسُthe sun
إِذا لَم أَغِب إِلّا لِتَحضُرَني الشَمسُ
My two friends, tell me: am I to blame
My friend, is there blame on me
if I am absent only so that the sun may be with me,
If I'm absent except when the sun brings me to life?
وَأَهديand I offer بِأكواسin goblets of المُدامwine كَواكِباًstars
وَأَهدي بِأكواس المُدام كَواكِباً
إِذاwhen ابصَرَتهاit beholds them العَينُthe eye هَشَّتit rejoices لَهاin them النَفسُthe soul
إِذا ابصَرَتها العَينُ هَشَّت لَها النَفسُ
and I offer stars in goblets of wine
And I offer goblets of wine like stars -
that delight the soul when the eye beholds them?
When the eye spots them, the soul flutters towards them.

Peace, peace! You two are all my solace;
Greetings, greetings - you two are all the joy,
and if you two are absent, Umm al-Rabīʿ is my solace.
And if you're absent, oh spring is the joy.
