Barakat gestures, while turmoil fills the heart,

foolishly—and can the ignorant dissuade the forbearing?

O woman, desist, for I am in love

with one from whom no reproacher can turn my love away.

    لا القَلبُ ضاقَ بِهِ وَلا هُوَ راحِلُ

    Love for I'timad dwells within my ribs;

my heart has not grown too narrow for it, nor is it departing.

O gazelle who stole Muhammad's heart,

and did the valiant lion not frighten you?

Whoever doubts that I am lost in love and enamored of you,

then in me he has proofs of my love for you:

a complexion clothed in yellow pallor, and tearful eyes

whose clouds have poured down, and an emaciated body.
