And a candle banishes the darkness of night,

As my hand banishes poverty from people.

The All-Merciful, out of His kindness, has placed

Its life in the cutting off of its head.

I kept vigil with it, while the cup was carried around

By one whose saliva is more delectable than the cup.

Its light, no doubt, comes from his face,

And its heat from the heat of my breaths.
