وَرَدتَyou came أَباAbu (father of) الفَتحal-Fath (victory) سَيّديmy lord
وُرودَthe coming of الكَرىslumber بَعدَafter طولthe length of السهادْsleeplessness
You came, Abu al-Fath, my lord,
You came to me, my master Abul Fath
As slumber comes after long sleeplessness.
Like the flowers that bloom after prolonged gloom
وَلَمّاand when حَلَلتَyou lodged بِناwith us لَمdid not تَحُلّyou dwell
مِنof العينthe eye وَالقَلبand the heart غَيرَother than السَوادْthe black center
And when you lodged with us, you dwelt nowhere
When you arrived, your coming did not lift
But in the eye's pupil and the heart's dark core.
The darkness in my eyes and heart
ودمتand you remained مِنّاfrom us طَيوراًbirds غَدَتbegan
تَطيرُfly إِلَيكَtoward you بريشِwith the feathers of الوِدادْaffection
And you remained [wording unclear]; birds from us began
You became to me like birds
To fly toward you with the feathers of affection.
That fly to you on wings of love
