بَردُcool freshness الصِباyouth لَيسَis not مِثلَlike البُردِthe cloak تَخلَعُهُyou take it off
بَردُ الصِبا لَيسَ مِثلَ البُردِ تَخلَعُهُ
وَجازَand it is possible أَنthat يَستَعيدَresume اللُبسَwearing مَنwhoever خَلَعَهtook it off
وَجازَ أَن يَستَعيدَ اللُبسَ مَن خَلَعَه
Youth’s cool freshness is not like a cloak you take off,
The chill of dawn is not like chill you take off,
And whoever has taken that cloak off may wear it again.
And it was right he take back clothes he took off.
فَأَجدِso give generously وَاِجدُدand strive وَآجِدand build soundly واجِدُand seek bounty from مَنthe One صَمَدِis sought
فَأَجدِ وَاِجدُد وَآجِد واجِدُ مَن صَمَدِ
غُفرانُهُHis forgiveness وَاِخشَand fear وَاِخشُشand bridle نَفسَكَyour soul الطُلَعَهthe inquisitive
غُفرانُهُ وَاِخشَ وَاِخشُش نَفسَكَ الطُلَعَه
So give generously, strive, build soundly, and petition the One sought
So find, renew, be active, and raise your spirit,
For His forgiveness; fear Him, and bridle your inquisitive soul.
His forgiveness, fear God, check yourself at dawn,
وَأَعرِضand present أَحاديثَtales مِنfrom قَومٍpeople أَتوكَthey came to you بِهاwith them
وَأَعرِض أَحاديثَ مِن قَومٍ أَتوكَ بِها
عَلىagainst قِياسِكَyour reasoning تَحلِفyou will swear أَنَّهُمthat they are وَلَعَهliars
عَلى قِياسِكَ تَحلِف أَنَّهُم وَلَعَه
And set the tales that people have brought you
And turn away talk which some people brought you
Against your own reasoning—you will swear they are liars.
Measuring by yourself they swear they're obsessed.
