    Your world is like a mirage: if you imagine it to be

    Water, that is deception; and if a sharp sword, mere intimidation.

    And the body is a house for the soul, a house that has often suffered

    Demolition; and relocation is fitting for the house's master.

    فَالخَيرُ سُؤلٌ وَحُسنُ الظَنِّ تَسويلُ

    The soul makes hopes alluring and asks for them;

    For good is a wish, and hopeful expectation is self-delusion.

    فَلِيَغدُ مِنكَ عَلى عافيكَ تَمويلُ

    You have been given wealth, and wealth shifts like shade;

    So let a gift of wealth go from you to whoever seeks your bounty.

    You took a pledge from days that deceived you,

    And there is no relying on that pledge.

    لَها إِذا شاءَ تَقصيرٌ وَتَطويلُ

    In God's grasp are allotted lifespans;

    He shortens and lengthens them whenever He wills.
