Sol 5.6

  1. قَرَنتَ جَيشَينِ فَكَم مِن دَمٍ

    أَرَقتَ لا هَدياً عَنِ القارِنِ

    You brought two armies together—how much blood

    you shed, no sacrificial offering from the one who joined them.

  2. فَمارِني إِن شِئتَ أَولا فَما

    يُعرَفُ إِلّا ذِلَّةَ مارِني

    So dispute with me, if you wish, or do not; for none—

    —is known except the abasement of whoever disputes with me.

  3. وارٍ زِنادُ الشَرِّ في هَذِهِ الدُن

    يا فَقُل يا جَدَثي وارِني

    The fire-striker of evil is kindled in this worl—

    —d; so say, O my grave: conceal me.

  4. وَيا خَليلي دَرَني زائِدٌ

    فَأَقصِني في الأَرضِ أَو دارِني

    And O my friend, leave me; I am superfluous,

    so distance me in the land, or deal gently with me.

  5. عِندَكَ مالٌ فَأَعِن سائِلاً

    وَلا تَبِت كَالسابِقِ الحارِنِ

    You have wealth, so help one who asks,

    and do not spend the night like a balking racehorse.

  6. فَالرَجُلُ لِلرَجلَةِ وَالكَفُّ لِل

    كَفَّةِ وَالعِرنينُ لِلعارِنِ

    For a man is meant to go on foot, and the palm for the—

    —scale-pan, and the nose for what is fetid.
