أَعبُدِWorship اللَهَGod لاdo not تَظاهَرmake an outward show لِمَنto anyone who جاbeginning of 'you lived beside'
أَعبُدِ اللَهَ لا تَظاهَر لِمَن جا
وَرتَcompletion of 'you lived beside' يَوماًever بِسُنَّةٍwith Sunnism أَوor بِرَفضِwith Shiism (Rafidism)
وَرتَ يَوماً بِسُنَّةٍ أَو بِرَفضِ
Worship God; do not flaunt before anyone you have
Worship God, do not pretend with whoever came
ever lived beside either Sunnism or Shiism.
And once followed a doctrine or rejection
رُبَّmany a خَفضٍease أَتاكَcame to you مِنfrom بَعدِafter بَأساbeginning of 'adversity'
رُبَّ خَفضٍ أَتاكَ مِن بَعدِ بَأسا
ءَcompletion of 'adversity' وَبوئسٍand misery لَقيتَهُyou encountered it غِبَّin the wake of خَفضِease
ءَ وَبوئسٍ لَقيتَهُ غِبَّ خَفضِ
Many a spell of ease has come to you after adversity,
Many humblings came to you after might
and many a misery you have met in the wake of ease.
Oh how evil and wretched was the humbling you met unprepared
قَدalready نَفَضتُI loosed السِهامَthe arrows أَبغيI seek المَقايِيbeginning of 'the standards'
قَد نَفَضتُ السِهامَ أَبغي المَقايِي
سَcompletion of 'the standards' فَلَمbut did not يُثبِتِbring down الرَميَّةَthe quarry نَفضيmy shooting
سَ فَلَم يُثبِتِ الرَميَّةَ نَفضي
I have loosed the arrows, seeking standards,
I have shot the arrows seeking the targets
but my shooting did not bring down the quarry.
But my shooting did not steady the marks
أَيُّهاO you الناظِرونَthe observers هَذاthis قَضاءٌfate
أَيُّها الناظِرونَ هَذا قَضاءٌ
هَلhave ...? عَلِمتُمyou learned إِلىto ماwhat أَصبَحَit has come to يُفضيit leads
هَل عَلِمتُم إِلى ما أَصبَحَ يُفضي
O you who look on, this is fate:
O you who look, this is fate
have you learned where it now leads?
Have you known what it leads to in the end
