مَنwhoever رامَsought أَنto يُلزِمَcompel الأَشياءَthings واجِبَهاtheir duty
فَإِنَّهُthen indeed he بِبَقاءٍfrom continued life لَيسَdoes not يَنتَفِعُbenefit
Whoever seeks to compel things to fulfill their duty

أُرضيI satisfy اِنتِباهيmy wakefulness بِماwith what لَمdid not يَرضَهُaccept it حُلُميmy dream
قِدماًlong ago وَأَدفَعُand I push أَوقاتيmy hours فَتَندَفِعُso they move on
I content my wakefulness with what my dream did not accept
long ago; and I push my hours along, and they move on.
وَخَفَّand grew light بِالجَهلِthrough ignorance أَقوامٌsome people فَبَلِّغهُمso bring them
مَنازِلاًstations بِسَناءِin the splendor of العِزِّhonor تَلتَفِعُwrap themselves
And some people grew light through ignorance; so bring them
to stations cloaked in the splendor of honor.
أَماhave ... not? رَأَيتَyou have seen جِبالَmountains الأَرضِthe earth لازِمَةًholding fast to
قَرارَهاtheir base وَغُبارُand the dust الأَرضِthe earth يَرتَفِعُrises
Have you not seen the earth's mountains holding fast
to their base, while the earth's dust rises?
