Who are the men who told us of decay

and returned to us after death's ravages?

Sons are like fathers; how often has death tormented

a lizard, for all its infirmities, and a fish!

We buried them in the earth with certainty,

yet of souls there is no knowledge beyond conjecture.

And a man's quest to know what God has kept hidden

is reckoned madness, or something akin to madness.
