When the Rudaynian spears act unjustly, there rise against them
When the spinning wheels hummed, she longed for
distaffs bearing cotton and spindles.
A spindle and distaff of her own, to spin

They implore their Lord to destroy the gleaming swords and spears,
She prayed to God to end the drought and famine
and each is held in check by God's power.
Each fate is ordained by God, the Fates unfurl

Ostentation is ingrained in the nature of Eve's children;
Vainglory is ingrained in Eve's daughters
some practise hypocrisy earnestly, and others in jest.
Some boast of wealth, while others pose and twirl

They gave freely so people would say, 'They were generous,' and charged forward
Flaunting their charity so people would say
so a champion facing his foe might be remembered in battle.
Their line has horses robed in coat of mail

And Fartaj's gazelles have treacherously assailed you,
The fawn betrayed me, after having its way
along with Khiffan's lions, which do not woo.
And the gazelles who peer from behind the veil

How strange, then, the sun that has no radiance,
How wondrous is the sun with no gray hair
and the full moon, whose night journey the lunar mansions have not borne!
The moon bears no litter across hill and dale

Have swift horses, then, rejoiced in praise,
Did the racing steeds rejoice with praise?
and those heavily laden, full-grown camels in acclaim?
Or those beasts weighed down with their heavy tails?
